I am a caring, attentive professional and mom with over 20 years working with newborns, babies, children and families in different professional settings. Although I wouldn't be functioning as an RN in my position as Newborn Care Specialist, I do have a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and previous experience working as an RN in both the Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units. I am also a professional newborn/family photographer. I have grown and sustained my photography business for over 17 years, with a very loyal client base. Many families of my high schoolers have been coming to me since their children were 7-10 days old. I have photographed hundreds of newborns in their first 2 weeks of life and thousands of children. I am very comfortable with calming and comforting newborns. Parents often ask for tips during the photography sessions and I’m happy to pass along my “secrets” of content babies. I've also completed and been certificated in the Newborn Care Specialist training course as well as other specialty training courses for the newborn care professional. (See resume) I am fully vaccinated and boosted (most recent booster October 2022) for Covid and am happy to wear a mask when doing close care with your newborn if you are more comfortable with that.
My guiding philosophy is that we are a team. But you are the captain. I love using and teaching families my tricks to help babies slowly adjust to life outside the womb in a gentle manner that allows for a good balance between healthy attachment/bonding while encouraging baby's self-soothing abilities and healthy sleep habits. Depending on your parenting style and goals for our time together, we will work together to create the best plan of care and routines for your family. Our plan is likely to fluctuate as we get to know what your baby and your family needs from me. It's important to me that you feel comfortable talking to me about anything. You will not hurt my feelings! If something isn't working, let's figure it out together. That said, some things are very important for me to follow, for liability reasons. Specifically, AAP guidelines for safe sleep.
I have 21 and 17 year old sons (college and high school seniors) and I will soon be an "empty nester". My husband is a firefighter and not always home. So, it's the perfect time for me to be an NCS and to help families with overnight care, gentle, effective sleep conditioning and infant care education. Yes, those are my "babies" in the photo. It maaaay be time for a new photo. I look exactly the same though! Ha!!
I'm a "not native but never leaving" Coloradoan since 2009. I absolutely love this state and all of the outdoor recreation opportunities. When the weather is nice-ish, you will find me hiking, kayaking, running...slowly or doing "inclines" (though I haven't tackled the Manitou Incline yet!) I'm also a huge "theatre nerd" as my youngest was a professional actor in many productions throughout the front range when he was younger. I attend as many live performing arts events as I can. I also volunteer with Global Down Syndrome Foundation.
